Seojung Art Center Exhibits Artist Lee Choun Hwan’s Ink Wash Paintings: The Sound of Nature

[NewsFlix] From March 10, 2021,a Seojung Art Center runs an ink wash painting exhibition The Sound of Nature at Seojung Art Center gallery in Sangam-dong. The exhibition The Sound of Nature introduces artist Lee Choun Hwan’s ink wash paintings who is mainly inspired by nature for his artworks. These paintings shows how the artist understands nature and how he appreciates it.

the exhibition, which consists of works around 2000 when the artist focused on ink wash painting. The paining Sound of Nature(2005) catches your eyes immediately as you enter the gallery. It is one of his representative works of which the natural landscape is recreated with the shades of ink. About 20 artworks are presented including Jeongdori Gugyedeung(2005), Danyang, Mid-rain(2005), and Ulsanbawi Rock After Snowfall(2005) depicting the fog flow on the mountains, sea and river. Even though Lee Choun Hwan is currently focusing on abstract paintings the Light + Grain series, these ink wash paintings are meaningful as a starting point of his journey to complete abstract; he started ink wash paintings in his early twenties, and since then he has continually developed new styles of art.

The artist said, “The motivation is basically my hometown where I was born and raised. Images of the place in my memory give me motivation and creativity by returning to the beginning”

The Sound of Nature will be on display until March 23rd, 2021.

Also, Seojung Art Center is preparing for the artist’s solo exhibition Meeting Sound from the Inner Side to be held at Mizuma & Kips in New York.
